it's like i just slept 10min. ago and there goes the wake up call again!
we left the hotel exactly 643am without taking breakfast. i was expecting snow since last night but it wasnt snowing in seoul yet, though i've seen on the news that other parts of korea was was already snowing. the weather was really really cold, fog was everywhere, it's really hard to drive and all the vehicles had their fog lights on. because our bus has heater so it's hot inside and freezing outside. we would usually wipe our windows with a towel but this morning, a miracle happened. we couldnt wipe the moist off coz it froze! and i really mean you have to scratch it with your fingers just to remove it and you have crushed ice underneath your nails, just imagine how cold it was! andy, who had been our photographer already had developed the pictures and made an album, it's to our prerogative if we would buy it or not but one picture(5R) costs W5000 or $5 point something, really expensive right?! well, andy is just a working student who takes up photography. he doesnt depend on his parents for financial support so he works during his vacation and goes to school when it starts. he had only one more year to go, that was why he looked a little bit old for a college student coz he has to work for it. that was the only time that i really appreciated the person. of course everybody liked him coz he treats us extremely good but knowing a little bit of his history gave me a different perspective. we only bought 7 pieces of pictures, each one for the ski coz we didnt have any picture from our cams and two group pics. according to austin, half of the proceeds go to the company that andy is working for and he only gets half. so somehow it was ok with us even if it was really expensive coz at least he's really working hard for it. he really helps a lot with the tour, takes care of the people the whole day, carries things, assists us to get on the bus, checks if everybody is present, smiles and bows a lot, takes care of the food, reservations and the likes unlike others who you'll really feel that they only take pictures just to have the money and not care about other things. so we had a really good impression of him.
we made a stop at a supermarket to buy last minute grocery while austin headed to the airport to get our ticket. the driver and andy waited for us. the supermarket was at the same building that we had our first dinner. they pack the goods nicely for free, you know, put it in a box and tape and tie it up so that we can just check it in as baggage...really convenient. and of course, andy was at the other end waiting to carry all the stuff to the bus. there was a group of chinese people(from mainland) who were really noisy...very very noisy. it was like they were quarreling and shouting...i dunno what their problem was!it was so irritating! that's why i dont wanna live in some parts of china coz people kept on shouting even if they're not angry. that's just the way they are. you'll realize that even in local chinese restaurants, it's noisy right?
the moment we got in the airport, everybody started removing their winter coats and jackets, we wont be needing them anyway. we had our breakfast at the airport also. austin had to leave early coz she has another group arriving from indonesia. poor austin. she only had 2-3 hours sleep last night. she said that she was suppose to go home last night and wanted to take a taxi coz it was freezing outside but there was none coz a lot of people also takes the taxi instead of the bus. it was nearly 1am and she decided to just head back and check in the hotel. so the only one left was andy. again, he waited until the last minute where everyone was going to check in the immigration before he left. i thought he didnt understand english, really. he didnt talk to us during the whole stay, just greeted us with annyeonghaseyo, or wan-an(goodnight in chinese), and smiled and bowed a lot. but before we went it, i joked and asked him if he wasnt coming with us to the philippines, he pondered for about 2sec. and smiled and said no. so he must have understood me? hehe...
oh yeah, until the last minute, i didnt let any rain pictures pass. there was a counter for sk telecom before the immigration and they had brochures. i just walked up there and got three copies of each brochure(the other two for kaye and mill) and my bros and cousin were rolling there eyes...haha...our flight was 11am so we had a lot of time in our hands and started exploring the airport. there were really lots of baeyongjoon's pictures. did i mention that he has long hair now?i like his hair, he really looks good. i saw another rain pic inside, his trofish ad. ive seen it in hongkong and over the net so didnt need to take a shot of it.
10minutes before boarding, a lady approached us and said something in korean but i heard a manila and answered with a yes. she must have asked if we were heading to manila. she paused for a while maybe because is answered with a yes so she realized that im not korean and spoke in english(do i look korean now because ive been around koreans for 6days?) asiana was offering anybody who would give up their seats (two seats) $200 and take the next flight of korean air instead 8:05pm because they had a group of kids who would be coming to the philippines and stay for 6 weeks at manila hotel to learn english. it looked like a fieldtrip to me hehe...you'll see a bunch of kids lining up in the airport and have this excited look on their faces and i just cant help but smile. going back, i would have loved to stay and take the money but it's a hassle coz that means my parents have to go back to the airport midnight just to go get me. plus, i couldnt go out of the airport anymore so i would have stupidly waited inside the airport for 9hours...nevermind. the only place that i thought of going in case i was left behind was JYP. anyway, we didnt accept it but we had two companions who gave it up.
it was a small plane, and everybody in the front were kids with a number of adults. it really felt like a fieldtrip. it was like we were the only adults and filipinos in that plane. i really didnt want to come back to the philippines yet. i almost cried when we were taking off (well, just got teary eyed) and stared outside until there were only clouds...i felt aweful!it's like i already marked korea as my second home...:C there were two very cute kids behind me, brother and sister and they understood english. they really had a big future you know, im happy for them. of course i didnt forget rain's picture from the magazine so i made sure that i had the camera with me this time and took shots of the magazine. i didnt read my law book this time though coz i was so tired so slept all the way, if it wasnt for the very naughty kid behind me that keeps kicking my chair, i would have slept all the way to the philippines.
there's nothing to commend in our airport, just the same old airport. in my mind, here comes the hot weather again, here comes the dirty air again, here comes pollution again...all the negative things you know...im really bad but that was really how i felt.
_______________________________________________________________________________________
overall, the trip was amazing, worth every penny. my dad also liked it. he was the one who didnt want to go to korea before but he was happy with this trip, really light hearted all the way, except for meeting the chinese group in the supermarket.
now, im gradually converting our house into korean style. the food i mean. who knows, i might really migrate there someday...haha...^_^
morning call, 6am!!! argh!!! it was so hard to wake up!
most of the people were sleeping in the bus so we watched my little bride. all the way, it was so foggy. and the weather was getting colder. forecast has it that it would snow tomorrow night and temperature would drop to negatives starting tomorrow. now the thing about filipino groups leaving and the weather getting worse is becoming a reality.
when we arrived seoul, we first visited the blue house(the presidential house, because it has a blue roof). we werent allowed to take pictures along the way for security purposes and was only allowed to take shots in front of the guest house. the weather was chilly and people were really putting on more and more clothes. we had lunch and went to duty free. we didnt buy anything anyway, so we just stayed there for 20mins then headed to the ginseng factory. my dad bought a box of ginseng which costs roughly $500 and they gave us two free ginseng soap. of course it smells like ginseng, havent tried it yet though. austin also gave us each bamboo salt soap which she got as freebies from duty free, it smelled like ginseng, weird! next stop, amethyst factory. i didnt buy anything coz i just didnt feel like it. even it the necklace was kinda cheap, i just wasnt in the mood to buy one. then we went to myungdong shopping center. actually the whole place is called myungdong, it's like our divisoria but very clean and organized. i couldnt shop for any clothes coz they were all selling winter clothes. even during winter season, the fad for the ladies is skirts, leggings/stockings, and high heeled boots. they must have drank a lot of ginseng soup to stand the cold.
ok just some hihglights. there was one store, T-World and rain was the endorser so his face is on their windows and i took pictures with it on the street. people were stared at me but i didnt care. another, i finally saw the giordano store with the rain statue and jangdongoon's! i was jumping joyously and went inside the store with my cuz. i asked the guy if i could take pictures and he said sure i can. people outside the store were looking at me but i really didnt care! i had to have pictures with them! if only the guy wasnt there, i would've hugged that statue!haha...
one store i couldnt forget, was the store selling korean cds, posters and the likes. austin recommended us to buy at that store and i intended to buy my rain's world cd there. i bought the special edition which has a really great cover. it includes a cd for the song and dvd for the behind the scenes, making, and mvs. i just found out yesterday that there's another special edition repackaged which includes a planner! i missed that! rizza said that i may not have seen it or the store manager should have told me about it but i dont think that they had it. firstly, because i was really in a hurry, i asked the lady to show me all the rain stuff that they had. so there was this stall that had all rain cds, and accessories. the only cds there were the albums, cyborg soundtrack, rainy day, and showcase dvd. the one with the planner costs a little bit more expensive but still, i would have bought it instead of the one without. the special edition without the planner costs W17000, approximately P905. and according to rizza, the one with the planner is more than P1000. dang store!!!haha...im so bad...ok ok erase erase...mianhe...i bought a pair of socks with rain's giordano pic on it and a set of ballpens with faces on of him. i should have bought more but they're kinda expensive and i didnt have time coz we'll be meeting austin at that moment and the bus cant stop long so i was like i'll take this and that and then go.
last destination for the day is lotte world. this is the exact place they shot full house where rain(lee young jae) was looking for hanjieun, remember when he rode the monorail and they also skated there? im a hundred percent sure of it. i would have skated but austin said we still have to go out and enter the mall downstairs...whatever. lotte world is indoors and you can ride the monorail or just walk across a bridge to go to magic island(outdoors), where the more exciting and scarier rides are. we had the gyro drop. we had one similar ride in universal studios before and it was more scarier there. my dad hadnt tried it yet so we decided to ride that one. it will take you 70meters up and then suddenly drop you. it's not scary actually, your heart will only literally stop beating...unlike other amusement parks, lotte world closes early. we wanted to try the bungee jumping also but after the gyro drop, every ride was already closed. the last event they had was the laser show. if you've seen fullhouse you'll know what it is. the time when they skated during HJE's birthday and they have all those lighting effects, it's the very same one.
we checked in the hotel(novotel) really late, around 11pm so we didnt take a walk anymore coz morning call will be 530am the next day, but i didnt let go of this day without ice cream. we had lunch at tony romas and austin promised to treat us ice cream if we all got in the bus before 745 that morning, and we all did so we all had vanilla strawberry ice cream topped with chocolate syrup at tony romas^_^
i would have gone out to walk on gangnam street that night but i was dead tired because of the accumulated lack of sleep, now im regretting it...hehe
last night in seoul huhuhu...
December 30th, 2006
it's a good thing that i always let my cuz take a shower first in the morning coz this morning, i saw rain news on kbs2! his lv concert. although i didnt understand what he was saying, it had snapshots of the concert and it was so great, especially the operning where it's like he had a tent and it opens in the middle and he's in there! it's raining had a great new choreo...
we had to pack our things again coz we'll be transfering to another condotel, in suanbo. same daemyung resort but different branch, near the ski resort.
yongpyong ski resort is the shooting place of winter sonata. we rented our ski clothes and equipments except the gloves, we had to buy it for W10000 coz of sanitary issues. i dunno what's with the suit but it was really warm. you dont even need to wear pants and jacket inside and you'll do just fine. at the entrance of the resort, there's a banner of rain with a girl, of course i took picture with it. i think it's a kb card advertisement. anyway, the ski boots and plates were so heavy! and the lockers, you have to put two 500 won coins in it to lock it. ones you open it, you have to put coins again to lock it, that's just how it goes.
SKI LESSONS since there were 35 of us, we lined up in two parallel lines. austin and a professional ski instructor taught us the basics. it's very easy, easier than ice skating. to break/stop, you just have to make an A shape with the plates. now i understand why they call it wintersport. it was really hot! you'll really xweat a lot. snow is all around you and you know that the wind is cold, but you sweat all over. the sun is above you but your face doesnt sweat. oh, i did get dark because of the sun. i didnt have any sunblock on and the sunblock from the supermarket was really expensive so i aught not to buy any. it was so hard going up the hill with the plates on. in the end, i just removed the plats and walked up the hill. it was harder to get up from a fall than to ski do you know that? there's a right way to fall. you should fall on your hips and never put your wrist on the ground. i only fell one time. i was going way too fast coz i came from a high place and i cant stop despite making an A and there were really lots of people ahead of me so i had no choice but to fall, and i fell the wrong way! it was alright but it must have been a sight! it's like i made some somersault! people looked at me, but i just laughed at myself and didnt care, they dont know me anyway!haha...oh yeah, there was a really big kb card billboard in the ski section with rain's pic. i kept smiling at it whenever i see it.
we had lunch and checked in at another daemyung resort. aquaworld was just at the basement. it's a place with lots of pools(massage pools), and different kinds of hot bath like tea bath, lemon bath, etc. since we didnt bring swimsuits, we just rented, it was cheap anyway. they are really organized. first you have to find a locker to put your shoes. then give the key to the receptionist and he'll give you another key for your locker inside the locker area. the key has a rubber spring so you can wear it at your ankle or arm while you're in the pool. it's like i had a full body massage in the pool. there were some parts where the water was really strong that it really hurt a lot. after an hour, me and my cuz went to experience the different baths. there was one, the cave bath which was really hot! the temperature of the water was 41degrees! it felt like i was melting! we also tried others and the most special one was the event bath. they have different "flavors" everyday, and that day it was green tea. it's outdoor, it's freezing outside and we run our way to the steaming pool, and i mean really steaming pool, you'll see steam coming from the pool. the water was sooo hot! it was i think around 46degrees! it didnt felt cold at all even if you have your upperbody above the water coz the water was really hot. anyway, we had about 15mins more of massage at the indoor pool after the event bath and went to take a shower. did you know that koreans go nude in the sauna? literally nude! though of course, the male and female are separate, but still. they go to sauna once a week coz it's good for their health and skin. they're used to it coz since they're kids, they already experience it so you'll just see full of naked people in the sauna, shower, and locker room. people dont look at you when you're naked. they stare at you when you have something on. of course i didnt go to the sauna, but i was tempted to try it hehe...
we had dinner somewhere near the condotel and i really felt sleepy because of the bath and massage but my day cant go without the ice cream. when we got back to the condo, we took a walk outside, explored the park and crossed a very unique bridge, then went back to the hotel's supermarket to get ice cream. i also bought a toothpaste. i share toothpaste with my cousin but i just wanna buy a korean toothpaste even if it's practically the same. you know how crazy i am...haha...
i didnt sleep on the floor again because i was so tired and i just want to have a good night sleep. tomorrow, we go back to seoul, and my last day in korea...:c
koreans dont really celebrate christmas. only december 25 is holiday to them. they dont have a specific greeting for christmas so they just say merry christmas, or just annyeonhaseyo
we went to mount sorak(sorak san). it's 3 hour drive from seoul. in the bus, austin was asking us what we wanted to watch and suggested some which she brought with her. we ended up watching bae yong joon's compilation. and she was talking a lot about him that he's very matured, she already met him thrice and he's more handsome in person than on screen and stuff. we later found out that she's really crazy over bae yong joon from alice(another lady from the travel agency). btw, i forgot to mention that yesterday, i asked austin something and she asked me if i did love korean dramas and what was my favorite. maybe she was expecting me to say any show of bae yong joon but i just told her plain and simple "full house of course" and the stuff about rain. and she said that rain is a very honest man. i was really glad. it's like even though she's not a fan, it's common knowledge that rain is a good man and he really has a very good image to koreans and they really agree of him. it makes my heart melt....haaayyyy...and another thing. she said bae yong joon's house is just 10mins away from our hotel(novotel), from what i know, rain and bae yong joon are neighbors, so that means that rain's house is just 10mins away from me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! well, it doesnt matter, i didnt know how to get there and he's in LV.
we had lunch along the way. again, korean style, sitting on the floor but it was better this time coz it had a hole underneath so we could sit better. we had pork barbeque(sanggopsal) and they were all asking me how to eat it, what goes with it...of course austin and andy assisted us and taught us how koreans eat seaweeds with rice. take a sheet of seaweed and put it on top of your rice. use your chopsticks, have it slighlty slanting the table on top of the rice and get some rice with the seaweed on top. that way, you can make sort of kimbap without even using your fingers. it was so delicious. i dunno how much seaweed i had during my whole stay in korea.
soraksan, the rocky and third highest mountain of korea, was so beautiful. we had the snow of our life. there was snow everywhere. we walked and walked and walked until we reach a really big monument of a saint and took some pictures and visited a buddhist temple, heard some history from austin and immediately headed back coz we had to catch the cable car to go up soraksan. the cable car would take you up some thousand meters from the ground and from there, you still need to walk, climb, crawl on slippery snow ground and rocks to reach the peak of sorak. it was easier to climb to the top when you're nearly there because it was all rocks but i just climbed up to 3/4 of it, i was afraid i might be able to get down anymore coz it was so steep and scary and i didnt have trekking shoes on, though my bros and dad finished it. there were also lots of kids climbing it. i made a wish there. they told me to find a rock and put it on top of the pile and make a wish. i wished to pass the board exam. it meant a lot to me. it was also hard to get down coz it was slippery. there was a time when i thought i'll slide straight to the bottom coz i couldnt stop sliding, good thing andy was there also helping the others. i really sweated a lot climbing that mountain. whew! but on the way down, the cool air started to get to us again. just before we went down the cable car, we had dippin'dots and some sort of flavored crushed ice.
we had fish for dinner. it was so good. i dunno what's with other people, they dont like fish so for the rest of our meal, we didnt have fish anymore. they might not know it but fish is very expensive in korea! and beef also is expensive. they are for special occasions only.
i had melon flavored ice drop that night
we checked in at Daemyung resort. it was a condotel. like the ones you see in dramas. they had their doors open outward, you should remove your shoes at the door and the light at the door automatically turns off after a minute.
our first night at the condotel, we slept on the floor! of course there was bed but i wanted to experience what it's like to sleep on the floor like the ones i see on tv so i had to have that experience. my cuz first hesitated but gave in in the end coz i was so excited to try it. the pillow was really heavy. really really heavy! i dunno what's in it! and it's so hard. i dunno what's so comfortable about it. but the floor was warm. they have heater underneath. me and my cuz took lotsa pictures and had fun while doing it haha...i admit, i didnt sleep really well. there was a time when it became sooo hot that i removed my blanket but after a while it was getting chilly again so have to put it back. the mat is called "yol" and blanket "ibul"
some history here
the place that we stayed(Gangnam) is part of the new seoul(the high end part). the old seoul which we have to pass over Han Gang(Han River) is really a memorable bridge for koreans(and should be for filipinos as well). during the korean war, our country sent troops to help the koreans. the hankang was destroyed at that time but of course rebuilt later. because of the aid received by the koreans, they now have a very good impression of filipinos. like they have a special gratitude to us thus filipinos are looked-up/admired by koreans until now. currently, there are 26 bridges over hankang. there was another bridge that we passed last night, Yang Jong bridge which is over the yellow sea(hwang kang) that connects incheon from yang jong. incheon is an island by the way.
tourist spots we went to the national folk museum of korea which is located on the ground of gyeongbokgung(the name of the palace). the usual stuff you find in museums of course. outside there was a bit snow on the ground. filipinos love snow i tell you haha...even five meter length of snow was ok, we were taking pictures on it! the austin was laughing because we find happiness in very few snow and told us we would have tons of it in soraksan and the ski resort. yeah we knew that but still, it was fun! haha...there was a part on the ground where there were the twelve animals of the lunar calendar. we had our pictures taken with our respective animal and had to hurry because we still have to visit the palace. the palace was like daejanggeum(jewel in the palace). the few things that i can remember from the history was, the king has to ask permission from the officials if he wants to spend the night with the queen. the reason is the next king might be conceived and they have to decide on things, and that's also the reason why king have many concubines. lower ranked people(mostly the servant) are not allowed to use the main doors. they have doors on the sides of the palace which are low so tall people have to stoop if they want to enter(like me hehe) the purpose of the low doors is for the servants to bow everytime they enter the palace, because they have to. also, the ranked of the officials can be seen on their hats. you know what im talking about if you are fond of korean dramas. the wider the brim, the higher the rank. and the most important birthdays are 7th and 60th birthday. you are considered a senior citizen when you reach 60, and ironically, that's the time that the government would recognize you as a person, that's how austin put it. they have lots of benefits. and koreans really respect their elders. i read somewhere that korean children are spoiled to the extreme starting from infant to seven years old. so when they reach 7, they experience a sudden shift in their lives for that's the time they have responsibilites and stuff.
on the bus, heading for lunch, austin suggested to have individual introductions(since it was a tour package, so we travel in a group). of course the usual stuff, name, age, school...blah blah, and i added at the end..."and im a really big fan of rain". the people plus austin reacted "of who?" and i turned to her and said "rain...bi" and realization hit. so she told the other if they've watched full house and he's the main actor there...dah dah dah...and some of them knew him. of course my family laughed when i mentioned the last part hehe...and the exciting thing that happened was the moment i sat down and looked out the window, i saw rain's "im coming" video being shown at a very big screen on the top of a building! was it fate or just coinsidence???haha...anyway, i was looking out the window most of the time and saw some giordano stores with rain and jangdonggoon's pictures outside and everytime i see them i would flip and my cuz would just laugh at me. now, i was also watching out for tvxq coz kaye particularly told me to take pictures but i dont think ive seen any. there was only one time when i think i saw them on the side of a bus, like an advertisement, but im not really clear with it coz our bus was moving that way, and the other was moving the other way so i just saw it for a split second so couldn't take a shot of it. sorry chingu...mianhe...
we had ginseng chicken soup for lunch. it was again a unique experience coz we got to sit on the floor. haha...and the floor is warm. the food was really healthy and andy has been helping a lot with taking care of us. they told us that it was a good thing for us coz we'll be going to everland after that and it would be freezing coz we'd be staying out late and the ginseng soup would help keep us warm. we also had a shot of ginseng wine each. it was nice, and healthy.
everland experience: we just had three rides coz it was really really really crowded. we were suppose to see the LIGER(because it's the offspring of a lion and tiger), they say that it was huge but the line is so long which will take us two hours, so we just backed out and decided to take the rides. first, the double rock spin. we waited in line for more than 2 hours. we really wanted to try it coz havent tried it anywhere including disneyworld and universal studios. it looked scary but not in fact. maybe it's just us coz we love thriller rides. really, we take the challenge and ride the extreme rides, that is me and my bros, plus my dad. i dunno how to describe the ride but the essence is, you keep on spinning. we really didnt care how long it took us, we just have to try it. my toes were frozen already and when it was nearly our turn, i started shivering all over coz it was soooo cold, the heater hat(they had lots of posts all over the place which served as heater) didnt even help. another one is the snow buster. it's were you have kind of salbabida and you take this walkalator up the snow hill and slide from the top. it was so much fun! you have to sit on the salbabida and use your heels as breaks. the last one we tried was the rolling x-train. a typical roller coaster. maybe the whole ride just took us 10-15 seconds, it was so short but the train was so fast and we went around 3 or 4 loops i think.
our ticket comes with a free meal, and one of the lady from the travel agency, julia, suggested we go to this certain restaurant and order the porkchop. we didnt watch the parade show anymore coz we might not meet the time alloted to us so we just had our meal. the place was so crowded and we had a hard time finding seats. but it was clean, the food was also good. no bad experience from it. the time we finished our meal, we had to go back quickly coz the whole place is crowded and we have to go back to the bus. the lift had long qeues so we had no choice but to walk up the very very steep hill of everland. it was fine coz lots of people were also walking and it served as my after meal exercise. we managed to get back to the bus on time. poor andy was waiting for us in the cold to lead us to the bus coz there were about 3 dozens of bus in the parking lot.
after we got back to the hotel, again, i didnt waste my time to rest in the hotel and went for a walk. we didnt know where to cross the street coz jaywalking is illegal there and we cant just cross anywhere. we asked a korean couple where we can cross and he kindly assisted us. on our way to the other end of the road, we came across andy. he was smoking and talking to someone on the phone. and he bowed to us, and of course me too, i bowed, i was getting used to it already. he just kept of bowing to us. i guess it's in their culture. now talking about crossing the street, guess what i intended to do across the street....of course to buy ice cream! i bought "Papiro" and it costs W500. it was cheap...and delicious....hmmmm...yum!
additional things i learned: HANGEUL pyeonseng-for a lifetime tangshin-you(formal, when you talk to a person not your same age) no/nol-you(when you talk to a person your same age) naneun tangshineul saranghamnida(complete translation of i love you, but saranghamnida is ok) mogi mallayo-im thirsty choneun baega gopayo-im hungry(baegopayo is ok) a, jeogi pyonijomi isseoyo-a there's a convenience store over there cheocheonhi-slowly mashisoyo-delicious moshisoyo-praise, gorgeous kyowo/kyota-cute oneul pam shikan isseoyo?-do you have time tonight?
other basic words i already know, like annyeonghaseyo, yoboseyo, kamsahamnida, palli...
ondol-traditional korean house
CULTURE there's divorce in korea. the divorce rate had increased significantly coz the younger generation quickly decides to get married and would divorce over very vague arguments. the current wedding arrangement between spouses goes like this:
wearing hanbok(they have a different name for it for weddings) is a must. but because of western influence, they are also now wearing the white gown but they will only where it for a few hours. the night before the wedding, the close friend of the groom would make lots of noice on the streets outside the house of the bride. of course the mother of the bride would be ashamed to the neighbors and would be forced to give money to the friends(they are drunk except the groom), the bigger the amount of the money, they more steps they would go near the house. of course the mother would be desperate to shut their mouth so there are times when they friends would gain around $5000 that night. but the moment they enter the house, then they're dead meat. haha...that groom has to drink inside the house whether he likes it or not. that's the reason why most grooms are wasted on their wedding day. after the wedding, they would have a small private reception at some place with close friends and family member and head to the airport for their honeymoon. they always have wedding and reception at noon time. people will say bad things about you if you have it on the evening. in the past, the honeymoon destination is usually jeju isand(the largest island of korea), but now, they prefer to go to other countries, typically tropical countries like the philippines(boracay). the plane ticket us usually bought by the parents. the close friends of the guy, just to play trick on the newly wed would get the tickets from the parents and the newly weds are forced to play their game so that they could get the tickets as quickly as possible to be able to get to their flight. the usual challenges of the game: 1. they have some sort of newspaper dance. so towards the ends, the groom has to carry the bride(this is to test how strong the groom is) 2. the bride is to swallow an eggyolk and should pass i to the guy. they friends would want to see how the couple kiss. it's grose right? sometimes the bride would just swallow the yolk coz she cant take it anymore and the friends would threaten her and tell her that they've got dozens of eggs with them. 3. they would insert a peanut in the underwear of the guy or something and the girl has to get it 4. they would tie a banana and two kiwis in a rope and tie it around the guy. the girl has to peel the banana with her mouth and eat it. the kiwis depends on the discretion of the friends. but sometimes, the groom would tell his friend to stop it already when the bride is too shy. since he doesn't have a choice, they get back at each other on the next wedding(depends on who comes next)
newlyweds are special because the government understands that they have a plane to catch, and they usually have sirens because they're rushing, they traffic enforcers usually give way to them on their wedding they coz they understand.
20% of koreans are Kim(surname). they can marry any person even if they have the same surname as long as they are from different clans. for instance, two kims from andong cannot marry each other. but a kim from andong and another kim from another clan can marry each other
we took Asiana Airlines and our flight was 1pm. we were afraid of heavy traffic since it's the holiday season and traffics are expected anywhere and everywhere because people would be making last minute shopping and going to the provinces so we left really early, around 8am. the thing is, there was really no traffic and we got to the airport within 45mins. it was the first time for us to arrive that early and the asiana counters weren't yet opened so we just sat there stupidly dozing off.
anyway, there was this good looking korean guy who would also be taking asiana. i just wanna mention this guy coz he's cute, that's all hehe...fast forward...the girl at the immigration was sooooo "makupad" as in!!! me and my cousin lined up in another line and my bros and parents at another so so we can get in quicker but all my other family members were already inside and me and my cousin were still in the line waiting for the lady to get the job done quickly. it's just that she's soooo slow and our temper were already rising coz she's wasting our time...fast forward again...we had our breakfast inside the airport. the food was really bad. it was expensive but you can really tell that it has been stored for a while, especially the pasta. ewe...you must be wondering why im just listing the negative points of the whole experience...well, coz there's really no positive things to mention of our airport considering that we have to bum around for 4 hours. i did become productive though. it was really a right decision to bring my law book. i read 40pages of it while waiting for the boarding time.^_^
flight time:3hours and 15mins. meal: choice of bulgogi beef and fish(i chose fish), plus bread, salad, and cake
highlights: while flipping through the magazines, i shrieked when i saw "im a cyborg but it's ok" pic(rain and im soo young). my cuz really laughed at me coz i looked stupid haha...i really wanted to take a pic of it but cant coz the camera is with my bro and they're sitting on the other side so i just decided to take the shot on the flight home. the magazine is "OZ ENTERTAINMENT".
the other thing that i took note of(and i really had a tickler with me for these special experiences), there's a song entitled "kyoron" (translation-wedding/marriage) sang by gu yo bi that really touched me. the tune was really nice and i think the meaning is also great. will look for it in the internet.

Incheon international airport is really great. it's like the hongkong airport. we met our tourguide, her name is Austin Kim and her assistant is Andy. the airport is really unique. it's like they have a flyover wherein vehicles can go to both the first floor or third floor. i was at awe, really. i expected to be hit by a freezing wind when i exit the airport(like the one i experienced when i went to beijing) but it was nice, soft, very cold wind that greeted me. according to austin, everytime there's a filipino group that visits korea, the weather changes. just a week before we went there, they experienced heavy snow. and the night we arrived, the weather was really great. and that proved to be true, which i will relate to you towards the end of this whole experience.
we stopped over a restaurant(i cant remember the name, it's like welcome korea i think) and had dinner first. we had mushroom soup and of course the side dishes. it was so delicious. and korean rice...ahhh! i can eat two bowls of it. other people really had a hard time using the chopsticks coz they're flat and kinda heavy, but i had been practicing for a month already at home so i'm used to it, now im boasting hehe...we stayed at Novotel Ambassador Hotel at Gangnam, Seoul.
of course im not gonna waste my first night in seoul sleeping in the hotel right? we walked the street of Gangnam(the main road) which is like the main shopping alley and the lights were so great. it is really safe even for ladies to walk at night, austin assured us. and it's true. it's like the whole city was alive! this is another place that i wanted to live, not boring, and the people are also good. it's a different feeling compared to the states or china. we saw lots of street foods along the sidewalk and tried one. it looked like waffles but egg-shaped. at first we hesitated to ask the lady coz we might not understand each other. BUT they understood english! it was obvious that we were tourist and they were really kind to assist us. we were asking lots of stuff like what it was and the lady said that it is fish and vegetable. she even taught us how to eat it. there were toothpicks and naturally, you would just poke on the thing and eat it right? but they are too soft so it was impossible to eat it as a whole. and she said that we have to use it like chopsticks. although they dont really speak good enlgish, at least we understood each other with the use of some sign language. they even told us to be careful coz it's hot(i dunno if they mean that the food was hot or it was spicy, coz it's both). after we finished the whole thing, they thanked us in a very very nice way. it really felt good you know. of course i wouldnt miss entering giordano stores coz rain is one of their advertisers. we went inside the store, i looked around at first, nagpapasimple hehe...but in the end, i was just staring at rain's picture(im really bichoso...aigoo...)the last highlight of my first night in seoul, we had ice cream! the weather was really chilly but i just have this tradition of eating ice cream during cold weather. even if my tonsil was hurting and i have a little bit of cold(which started five days before my korea trip), i must have ice cream and i intended to complete the ice cream streak for my whole stay in korea, that means everyday.
we just walked and walked and walked, observing the people, going underground to the subway, figuring out the streets, walk along small alleys. you know the small tents that you see in korean dramas? they really exists! and lots of them! haha...it was so great! i dunno with my cuz and bros but it really felt good to be able to experience or see the things that you thought are only on tv. jang dong goon's pictures were everywhere. later i found out that he endorses a beer so his pictures are all over the restaurants. but really, i observed that bae yong joon is the most popular one there. his pictures are literally everywhere.
woah! this entry is really long huh? okay just some more important points during my first night in korea -the hotel does not give complementary tootbrush and toothpaste because of some envirnmental issues imposed by the government -i asked for and extra soap from housekeeping but i didnt get one(considering that it was a five star hotel) -there was a complementary bottle of mineral water(we didnt need it anyway coz they have water dispenser in the room beside the elevator) -daesang awards night was showing on kbs2. i know that rain wouldnt appear anyway so i didnt finish it. but i saw mc mong perform

MY KOREA TRIP COUNTDOWN: 2 DAYS(YAHOO!!!!!!!!!!!) my body or mind must be really excited. i have been getting up at 5am for the past 2 days without needing any alarm!grr.... ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- ------- Sunday, December 17, 2006 my parents finally bought me HP shoes!!!! haha...it's a good thing that my dad and bro are the ones who chose for me. i didn't like the style at first, but when i got home and tried it on, it actually was really nice. ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- ------- yesterday, December 20, 2006 our last day of review in CPAR! as what the reviewers have been doing every year, they hosted a comedy show and book raffle. how to get free books(they have complete sets of prac1 and 2 books). 1 book of your choice-song(sing) 2 books-song and dance 3 books-song, dance, and kiss(any one of the reviewers) complete set-song, dance, kiss, and split of course i didnt dare to sing and i won't! i may have danced but i wasnt that desperate to get one(although i really wanted a book coz i have never bought any accounting books, i just borrowed them from my friend). a kiss will do but then, i didnt get the chance to. in short, i didnt get any books from the games and raffle coz the drawing box didnt even reach our section. but the whole event was a blast! i was laughing really really hard coz they were really funny. the director, atty. valix was so hip and "in" to this era! and the other reviewers, wahahaha... but my day wasnt a complete loss. even if i didnt get any free books, actually i did get free books. a whole set of prac1 book actually(financial accounting volume 1 & 2, and prac1 cpa examination reviewer). now how i got them is a different story. super kinapalan talaga namin yun mukha namin ni julie. kasi pati yun mga books na nasa bookstore inubos nila kasi super daming tao sa room, they combined the 2 rooms so kulang yun mga books. we were suppose to buy the books after class pero since inubos nila, wla na kami, e the books are on sale pa naman. so we gathered our guts and approached sir conrad(valix) after the class and told him that we wanted to buy the books pero ubos na(sa loob loob namin, we felt that he would give it to us nalang, coz he's really a gallant man) then he told us to follow him coz he thinks there are still some stocks downstairs. there were a lot of people waiting for him downstairs and we were ushered to his office, which was also quite crowded. he asked some guy to get the books and while waiting, there was a girl who won the prac1 book earlier who wanted to change the book coz she already got one, so julie immediately asked the book from her since she didnt want it and sir conrad also intended to give it to us. after another moment, another girl with the FA vol.1 came with the same case, then i was the one who asked it from her. we were so glad coz we each got one for ourselves. we sat there in the office waiting for the books that sir conrad asked for and when they came, he specifically gave one to each of us then distributed it to the others who were also watching out for it. we were so happy and was prepared to leave the building when we saw that there was another batch, this time the prac1 book being distributed. since julie already has one, i just told myself, "it's now or never" and approached the group and asked for a copy also. hahaha...it felt like i won the jackpot! haha...and what's more, we also got our books signed(autographed by sir conrad!) haha...i know for some people it's kind of lame to be happy about a signature, i also felt that way before but rain has changed my view haha...anyway, he signed in my FA vol.1&2 books with a merry christmas message and we also got to shake his hand, and this is like a one on one thing. unlike the earlier people who asked to sign their books in batch, we were sitting around a table with him. just the three of us. after he signed and stayed for a while, he shook our hands and still remembered our name!(but he may forget it soon anyway) actually he is a very approachable person, a father figure, and you can just barge in his office if you have a problem so asking for an autograph is not really a big deal. but then it would feel awkward to do it on normal days right? if only i had a camera with me that time, i would have taken a photo with him!hmph! on the way home, i was smiling to myself in the jeep(i may have looked crazy to other people) but i couldnt hide my smile anymore. the whole event, comedy show, plus the free books really got me. btw, the books costs more than P1000 and i got them for free! haha...*and with autograph too!

yes!!!!!!! my parents are gonna buy me new shoes again!!!!! hahaha...they havent bout me shoes in a long time coz ive gove lotsa slippers/sandals already(the cheap once you know, around a hundred pesos of flip flops) and they always complain about it and tease my that i might be the next imelda marcos haha... the thing is my brother's shoes are already worn out and they wanted to buy him new ones which was really expensive. and i kept on nagging about wanting a new pair of shoes, hush puppies in particular. at first my mom hesitated because it was too expensive but after we found out how much the costs of the shoes my bro was gonna buy, and of course my consistent kulit, they finally agreed to buy me news ones also. my elder bro didnt like the shoes that i wanted and insisted on the converse shoes(chucks). well, who knows. i didn't buy it yet coz converse will have a 50-80% discount on Dec 14-17 so we'll just wait for it and i might find something that i like. but still, im aiming for hush puppies*_*

it seems like it's been weeks since ive gone online!!! since saturday, it's been review for me! the whole day of saturday and sunday from 8am-6pm im inside CPAR. super siksikan! as in super! i didn't imagine it to be that crowded!consider that i have long legs, i couldnt move talaga! i cant's cross my legs, cant extend and stretch them. most of the people were working already that's why they have to enroll in the weekend session. i started attending the weekdays session starting monday and it was so much better!there were less people, and it's like the lecturers were more thorough with the topics(a bit). we cant blame them. for now, im just soooo stressed! i dont think i can log on as often as i like from now. im starting to condition myself to love solving problems already(shux! this is something new! haha)

i couldn't sleep the other night because of the exchange student thing. i just watched the 14th chapter of one tree hill third season and it just so fits my predicament.maybe it was a sign...*wink the catch: brooke got this really big opportunity to show her designs at a really big fashion show in NY, the winner will get a chance to work with a famous designer. then she has a dilemma. as the captain of their cheering squad, they also had a competition(the classics) at tree hill. she had been a cheer leader all her life and had never missed the classics, and now it's already her last year and last chance to perform in the classics. it's between her future and her happiness. in the end, she chose to perform in the classics since it's not everyday that she can be seventeen and cheer in front of their crowd with her bestfriend and team. now applying this to my situation, if i would follow brooke's decision and do the thing that i really want to, then that means, i won't be able to take the board exam on may, which would lead to the probability that i won't take the board exam at all since i won't feel like it after months of no accounting and i would forget about them already. in short, NO CPA for me. but happy and would help my grow as a person and more adventures in my life, and of course going to korea is a must before i die. if i would do otherwise, then i just continue the path i am on right now, and lose this opportunity AGAIN. i really hate it when i have to let go of big opportunities like this. have done them a lot of times already and getting sick of it. am i that unfortunate? i think i'll have to change my lucky star haha...

aish!!!!!!!!! this is so frustrating!!! julie told me the other day that our school has an offer of exchange student opportunity to korea but we need to have a CGPA of at least 3.0 and mine aren't that high. now, she texted me and told me there's another offer and only needs CGPA of at least 2.5. mine is near that already, but still, not 2.5!!! this is really my opportunity!!!! huhu...i sure hope that there'd be another one that gets at lest 2.0. i really wanna go...this is really a good chance. ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- ---- ok, i just checked the NL. it's Daejeon University. coverage: 2 semester tuition waived, round trip airfare, $500 allowance each sem. it's a great offer right?right????

no doubt that my brain and my whole body is tired. three days in a row of lack of sleep and busy the whole day. i slept for 10 hours last night, maybe 11. it's the first time this term that had been this tired since most of the time i'm relaxing(maybe one day,i'll be like rain hehe) the other night, my friend greeted me at the fashion show and said that i got thinner(which is interesting coz i don't do anything but sit down all day, eat, watch tv, sit in front of the pc. but then julie also had the same comment yesterday, so it might be true?but i took that as a complement) and i look not stressed out(i really will not look stress man. what's to stress about? haha) our professor got back and thank God, i learned something again today. i learned that next thursday's schedule will follow the friday schedule. so that means i won't have class again next thursday. weeeee!!!!!!!!i need to plan to go travelling again haha...

Monday November 20, 2006 classes in review school starts today, what an encouraging thought! hmph! it's just that every time i hear about studying accounting again dumpens my spirit. maybe im not meant to be an accountant. i had to go to school first since i need to submit a take home exam. the exam was so frustrating since i didn't get any of it. our professor was on leave and will be coming back tomorrow so we had numerous teachers substituting for her and and really didn't understand anything from our last professor. he was the one who gave us the exam and he inlcuded topics which he hasn't yet discussed in the exam. how does he expect us to answer those huh? we just copied from each other. it's better to have answers than to pass it blank right? at least you have answers. because of this stupid exam, i wasn't able to attend the review but not totally a loss anyway since the people who attended the morning session said not much was taught so it was ok. i just accompanied julie the rest of the time(the whole afternoon actually) since she has no class until 7pm. after 2months, we get to meet each other again haha...coz i only got tth class, and she mwf class. we didn't have much to talk about coz we usually talk on the phone so we just bummed the whole afternoon and went food tripping.

Sunday November 19, 2006 I only had 5 hours sleep last night since I got home after midnight and slept at around 2am. I am suppose to get up at 8am coz we’re going to divisoria but for some unknown reason, my tired brain just woke up 7am! The day can be called my total work out day! Knowing divisoria, expect really lots of people on the streets and inside the malls. It was so irritating that I haven’t bought anything. I didn’t even care to look at the clothes and other things because there were too much people and it was soooo hot and it’s like riding the trains during rush hour. We went to 4 malls and syempre, my parents namalengke ng konti and bought 20 dozens of towels for xmas giveaways. When I got home, I really planned to sleep coz I was dead tired plus the lack of sleep made me drowsy all day. But my aunt then invited me to eat at this Japanese restau at MOA. Of course, I said yes! So again I went out despite my tired legs and heavy eyes. The punchline is, we forgot what the name of the restaurant is. We just know that they had the dishes going around the restaurant, like on a walkalator. In short, we literally went around the whole mall 3 times searching for the restaurant and in the end, we didn’t find it. Haha…we went to every Japanese restaurant included in the mall directory so we went back and forth on both floors to no avail! We ended up trying out if I’m not mistaken “Japanese café” or something. And again, got home late. =)

Saturday Nov. 18, 2006 i bought the fishhet stockings for around P175 but my friend got cheaper once. what upset me was they were new but they already got runs! and not to mention that the brand is a famous one! luckily, i bought the once with bigger holes so it wasn't very visible unless you would really stare. arrived at Mugen around 5:30pm, had rehearsals and then the rest of the time just bum around and watch people rushing through the preparations The fashion show started around 11:40pm. my outfit by Irene: white longsleeves blouse with a red checkered "chaleco" black shorts and fishnet stockings heels makeup by F Salon behind the scenes: since my parents don’t really agree of me going to bars and staying out late, I just told them that it’s one of the restaurants in Metrowalk. Before, when I have these events, they would usually hesitate but still let me go because they know I like doing fashion shows. This time, they didn’t have any complains maybe since they didn’t allow me to go to the fan event the week before and they know how bad I felt hehe…anyway, I told them to go get me around 11pm since my friend, who is one of the organizers told me that the fashion show might start around 10 or 1030pm. So I think they were a bit disappointed with the time they had to fetch me but they didn’t say anything. I feel so bad for my block-peers coz everytime we have these evening get-togethers, I’m the only one who always have to leave early (consider 11pm early alright?). I really appreciate abbey and kate to attend the event, and wishing me luck before the fashion show started. Thank you so much girls!!! And of course, justinne, my closest block mate, our director, my hair stylist for last year’s fashion show and a whole lot more. Love you girls!*mwah! After the fashion show, we quickly changed so that we can get out of the backstage, since we’ve been there most of the time, nagsisiksikan! The whole bar was so packed that a lot were already outside coz they can’t move much inside. So again, we have to struggle our way out of the place. We just had some pictures together with friends then, annyeonhikaseyo!!!! Bye people, off I go…well, that’s my life… I congratulate JPIA for the very successful event, and congratulations to my friends charlotte for being miss jpia, and jenna also=)
